It has been interesting to watch the various police responses to the Occupy Movement around the world. The way the police deal with protestors reveals a lot about relative freedom. The oppression has been potable in the US. The most brutal repression against protest in the West has probably been in Greece, where the economic situation is as dire as it gets. Police presence has been minimal at other (much smaller) occupy movements in Europe. I smiled at one of the few police officers observing Occupy Amsterdam; she smiled back. That has been the extent of my interaction.
I would not have expected Australian authorities to be as oppressive as they revealed themselves to be. For a solid overview of the aggressive eviction of Occupy Melbourne demonstrators, please visit: http://roarmag.org/2011/10/shocking-police-repression-at-occupy-melbourne-in-videos/
